Another fabric page

Above is my finished fabric page for Magda's book. It has taken me a while I must say, to a) get my mojo back and b) finish the beading. I find beading very therapeutic, although I'm not the neatest beader on the planet.

The background is made using Beryl Taylor's fabric paper instructions, my first time making it. I love how it is so flexible and feels like fabric, yet has the strenth and stiffness of paper. Hope that makes sense.

I'm also uploading this to the Embrace the Face Challenge Blog which has a theme of white. I know my background and picture isn't white, but the birdie is :-)

Thanks for looking

Please do go and check out Sulea's blog. One day, when I have more time (yes that elusive more time), i would like to be able to paint with as much detail and serenity as my friend Sulea.

And yes I was lucky enough to recieve this gorgeous painting from her today

How lucky am I to receive such a fabulous piece from the uber talented Sulea :-)

I have been tagged

The lovely Keron - aka Colourguru has tagged me and I am to tell you 6 quirky things about myself & tag 6 others.

Ok so here goes:-

1. I am not competitive in sport and to be honest have never really taken much interest UNTIL RECENTLY. I have started playing touch football and am finding myself like some sort of crazy competitive animal! hehe maybe not that bad, but yeah the bug has bitten.

2. I love tomato sauce (and butter) sandwiches.... hmmm good. Grosses everyone out in my family :-)

3. I used to bite my toenails.... eeeeeeeeeekkkkkkk when i was very young of course. Can't believe I was a) that flexible and b) thought that that was tasty. maybe that is too much information...

4. I love having my hair washed and blow dried at the hairdressers and often find myself falling asleep when they blow dry my hair.

5. I also love having my feet tickled.

and last but not least

6. Where we live it gets very very hot in the summer. So at night my ultimate thing just before going to bed, is to have the air conditioning going full bore, so that it is freezing cold and I can still have my doona over me... Well that's what I would like to do, but it doesn't happen in our house very often, as I'm the only one who likes it like that. I love the cold, not the heat.

I am supposed to tag another 6 people, but I never have much luck with these sorts of things, so I'm going to opt out. But if anyone wants to put 6 quirky things on their blog and then link back to me, i'd love to read what others find quirky about themselves.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

Hi all

I have had very little time to do art this month and very little mojo to boot. So grabbed out my Suzi Blu kit Party Girl Kit and decided to start working on it. Basically Suzi has drawn the girl onto a piece of watercolour paper, and then provides some suggestions on how to colour and decorate your piece. So the face is not mine, but I have added my own style to this whole piece.

This also fits in with the latest 'Embrace The Face' Challenge of Who's coming to dinner :- Thanks for looking.

Art Exhibition Nerves

Ok so tomorrow is the official opening of the Art Exhibition here in Tom Price. THis is my first time EVER putting a piece up in an exhibition. I must say my nerves have got the better of me, as I went to see all of the art work tonight (sort of a pre-opening thingo)and I came home all in a fluster and ready to pull my piece out. All of the works are oranges and browns and of the landscape and here's my piece with a silver background and red flowers sticking out like - well you know what, those things that hang between doggies legs....

All of the art work is by professional "artists" and here's my piece that is slapped together by chucking a bit of paint on a canvas. these people draw and paint.... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ................ ok breathe Nat,,,,,,,,,, breathe.

Wish me luck tomorrow as people see a part of my heart and soul and hopefully are kind to me :-)

here's a piccy of my painting again

Embrace the Face

Jo W has started a new challenge blog called Embrace the Face. Her first challenge is Tree's.

So here's my entry -

Sorry for the quality of the pic. I tried taking a photo which didn't turn out very good and then a scan...... so here's the best of the bunch.

The background is fabric squares and the girl has been painted on to fabric. This is for my fabric book swap that I'm doing on another group, but there are several other bits I want to add to the side before it is finished. Ie beads etc... just haven't quite decided what they will be yet.

Thanks for looking.

My First Exhibition Piece & MMM

We have an Exhibition in Tom Price in a few weeks time with the theme "Poetry of the Land". So gaining up all my courage, here is my piece (I think) for this Exhibition. I might do another one yet and change it slightly, not sure. Or do two pieces and put two in the Exhibition.

Any ideas on a name???? I'd love some advice. All I can think of at the mo is misty sky??? A little boring i think. Size is 24 inc x 30.

This also fits the theme for this weeks MMM which is "Show us what you love to do" which is paint of course :-)

MMM - Stars

This weeks theme over at MMM is stars... ok so I'm a little early as this theme doesn't start officially until tomorrow (8th Sept), but I'm working all day tomorrow and I'm so excited about this painting, I just had to get it out 'there' NOW!! LOL I'm a wee bit impatient.....

Ok so this painting is a gift for a friend and inside the "treasure memories" frame is a picture of her children. I've blocked it out (with the red card), as she is a frequent visitor to my blog and i would like this gift to be a surprise for her.

After receiving Kelly Rae's new book - "taking flight", the idea of using a frame to place a special memory or photo inside, to make the canvas a little more personal, just appealed to me on so many levels. Thank you kelly for such a fabulous book and wonderful inspiration.

WS - Circles

This weeks theme at WS is circles. So here is my contribution -

Anybody that knows me, knows that I used to be quite an 'arty' type person, especially when it came to my card making. I've since decided to put my energies into painting instead, so when making cards nowadays, i'm looking for quick/easy and effective looking cards. Above is an example (I think) of this. So sorry to my arty friends who visit this blog and a lot of what they see lately is not what i used to do....

Shameless plugging

Used my Stampin!Up new punch today while making a fathers day card for my FIL. I LOVE IT!!!!! Ok so shameless plugging, but it's the punch that makes the wholes that look like you ripped teh page out of a ring bound book (wholes on maroon bit of card. Isn't it awesome. The punch is so easy to use too. I thought it would be complicated as it came with an instruction booklet, but it's so not. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.

MMM - Numbers & Recycle/Repurpose

Recently I did an online painting course with Karyn Gartel. So along a similar line to what we did in that class, here is my row of houses titled "My Street".

This also fits the theme for MMM which is numbers *****edit***** seeing as I only just scraped into the MMM Numbers theme, I'm going to use this one also for teh recycle and repurpose theme. The background has loads of scrapbooking papers in it that i dont like the pattern of any more, so covered with paint. Also the frame is one I bought from ebay and is 16" x 20" and was actually a brown stain. So I painted it with black Gesso and along the sides have painted stripes of white gesso. thanks for looking.

A Stamp Giveaway!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check it out here

Latest Painting

I've just finished my latest painting. Size is 8" x 10" and titled "she took flight from the eyes of the world".

I'm not all that happy with my shading still... I dont know if I ever will beor with my noses either :-)

On a lighter note, i've noticed that when i paint a set of eyebrows onto my girls, they are always crooked. But my own eyebrows are like that, so I guess I put a little bit of a self potrait into each painting.

I think I'm going to move on from faces for a little while and paint something else... but who knows, I'll let the paint and brushes decide for me.

Stampin' Up! and me :-)

I have now joined the wonderful world of Stampin' Up! as I was no longer able to resist temptation :-) I mentioned to a friend the other day, that I wish these products were around when I first started stamping, as there's really no need to shop anywhere else. They have everything!! I was blown away the first time I flicked through a catalogue at how much stuff they cover. From Versamark ink pads, to stamps (including a variety of quite arty stuff) to rubons.......

So on that note, if you're interested in having a peek at any of the SU products, here is the latest Idea Book and Catalogue for 08 - 09 which is full of loads of scrumptious stuff -

and the new Spring Mini Catalogue -

Buttttttttttttttt dont worry I'm not going to do the hard sell, as I think these products speak for themselves. However saying that, if you are interested in a catty or any products, please contact me on brineys@bigpond.com or check out the SU website .

She raised her face to the moon......

This weeks theme over at WS is Summer Tea Party.

Seeing as WS themes are always open to interpretation, my canvas is along the same lines as Dymphie's in that it is a midnight tea party. My girl is enjoying the moonlit night with her friend the butterfuly and her steaming hot cup of tea is beside her :-)

The stamps are very faintly in the background. I have actually used sandpaper to take off some of the roughness of the paint. There are a couple of fleur de lis's and some script stamps.

Thanks for looking

MMM - Generations

It's been a longggggggggg time since I've participated in a MMM, but this weeks theme is Generations, so here's my entry -

Friday, July 25, 2008

It's been a while since a post with some art in.

Yep it's been a long time. Working lots and with any spare time I do have, I've been busy beading.......

This is the front page for a fabric book swap I'm working on with a super bunch of girls. This book belongs to Patti Gramza in the US. So far her book is awesome and the work contributed by the other girls, is awesome. I think she'll be so over the moon when she gets her book back.

And the back cover.

Try Something New No2

Another first for on-line classes. This time with Paulette Insall. This was her organic backgrounds class. I do love my backgrounds I have to admit I do them a lot, but I haven't sanded my backgrounds before, so that was new. So the background although it looks textured, it's quite smooth. cool huh!!

So just to clarify this was a backgrounds class, and you could add what ever you wanted over the top of the background, although she does give some ideas as to what you can do. Anyone thinking about doing an on-line class, I highly recommend her and karyn Gartel.... both really cool and informative teachers.

So this canvas is 8" x 10" and is titled "An Awkward Friend". Still trying to get my faces right and my shading/trees right where I'm happy with the way they look.

So this is my second entry for MMM - Try something new.

MMM - Try Something New

Ok so this weeks theme over at MMM is try something new.

Here are pictures of 2 canvas's I made doing an online class with Karyn Gartel. Firstly this was my first ever on line class and i loved it. Secondly it was my first time making 2 canvas's at the same time.

thanks for looking.

Niche Canvas Swap

As my partner Julie H has now received her canvas (see this post for more details on this swap) that I made for her, I can now share it here on my blog.

She is happy with it, so that's always a good feeling.

MMM - Bingo

This weeks theme over at MMM is Bingo.

THis is an 8"x10" canvas that I have done as part of an online class with Karyn Gartel. I have enjoyed doing the class and will try and make more of these funky looking canvas's "one day" when things quieten down a bit.

Anyway here is my piece for bingo.

Wed Stamper - Be Square

This weeks theme over at WS is squares.

This is a page I've been working on for a fabric round robin book which belongs to the uber talented Jo W and is actually the back page (see this previous post to see the front page).

To be honest, I've yet to add something to the right hand corner yet to "finish" it off and it needs a "hidden treasure" which is the theme of all the books. But I think I'll work on that tom as it's late and I need to hit the sack.

Night all and thanks for looking.

CHECK THIS OUT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Is this AWESOME or is this AWESOME!!!!! This stunning piece of art is from my friend Julie H (check out her blog) as part of a swap that I'm hosting on INKredibly RT. The swap is basically that we pair up with somebody and we create a piece of artwork using the back of a stretched canvas (the niche) and send that to our partner. So the above is my STUNNING piece from Julie. Now all I have to do is make something as sensational as this to send back to her :-)

MMMM - Maps

Made the above "farewell" card for a friend who is leaving town (very very sad as her boy and my boy are besties), but unfortunately that's part and parcel of living in a very transient town (mining town). Tried to make it as bright and happy as I could, as the whole family are just gorgeous and bubbly/happy people. They will be greatly missed.

Anyway, this weeks theme at MMM is maps, so I have used maps on the pot and flower petal and then smushed over them with oil pastel crayons.

Thanks for looking :-)
